1: Defining the Problem:
Yin Deficiency is a TCM illness pattern which occurs when the body lacks sufficient moisture to keep it cool.
Usually it happens to people over time as a result of lifestyle and tends to become most pronounced during middle age.
Yin Deficiency is not a disease in and of itself, but rather a constitutional illness pattern which can cause a host of diseases to emerge.
Each person's body tends to deviate from absolute homeostasis (the perfect balance of all aspects of the body) and people with Yin Deficiency tend to be both constitutionally hot and lacking in “Yin” fluids.
Yin fluids can be broadly defined as any internal fluid of the body either innate or derived from nutritional sources.
As such, to be deficient in Yin fluids is usually a reflection of insufficient consumption of nutritional fluids leading to an internal deficit in the body, or can be due to the body consuming an abnormal amount of fluids leading to perceptions of internal dryness and even sometimes dry skin or skin conditions such as Eczema.
2: Understanding the causes:
Yin deficiency can come about as a result of genetics, but it usually results from accumulation of damage to the fluids of the body due to long term fluid depleting life habits.
